Legal Office Assistant

This program is designed for people interested in working in a legal environment and it will train Legal Office Assistant to assist lawyers in private law offices and in the legal departments of government and industry. Practical and legal knowledge is acquired in order to allow individuals to work in a law firm or government office. This program covers many aspects of the Legal profession. Students will not only enhance their keyboarding and transcription skills, but will also receive "Hands-On" training in two major word processing programs. Students will learn the proper procedures and terminology used in the legal system. Subject areas will include Wills and Estates, Real Estate, Corporate & Commercial Law, Civil Litigation, and Family Law. Students will acquire an understanding of the general principles of law and receive specific training in the skills appropriate for Legal Office Assistant.

Legal Office Assistants are usually employed by lawyers and their duties may include managing real estate files, maintaining corporate documents and filings, drafting court documents and correspondence, preparing briefs for trial, and interviewing clients or witnesses. Administrative clerks also compile, verify, record and process forms and documents, such as applications, licenses, permits, contracts, registrations and requisitions, in accordance with established procedures, guidelines and schedules. They are employed throughout the private and public sectors.
